Coronavirus: number of Hong Kong quarantine rooms, time in isolation for helpers not changing, labour minister says

  • Hong Kong authorities have no plans to increase the number of coveted quarantine places for foreign domestic helpers, or to lengthen their isolation periods despite a worsening pandemic in the Philippines, the city’s labour minister has said.
  • Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong’s defence of government policy followed criticisms from employment agency bosses that the daily supply of 65 rooms was far from enough to accommodate the local need for domestic helpers.
